Life has taken so many twist and turns during the last few months. We accept each one of them with our heads held high knowing we are not in control but God is. However, we are only human and the toll it takes on us is hard.
Sitting here this morning reflecting on the last six years and what a “wild ride” it’s been. So many ups and downs, hurts and happy moments. I like to think more happy than hurtful but with Perthes anything can be hurtful. Pain, your friends not calling you to play, having to sit all day, walking in a scottish rite brace, someone not holding the door for you as you roll into a store…just things. Today though we have talked to Tanner and he has decided that “a little pain for a lot of gain” is so worth the outcome. What he will do between the ages of 10 and 30-40 will determine if this surgery is a good thing. There are no statistics no asking older patients, we have a innovative Doctor who is determined to make Perthes childrens life pain free while being active. How awesome is that!!
We drove to Sinai Hosptial in Baltimore from our home in Indiana on Sunday. It was a beautiful day for a drive. We arrived a little around 8 p.m. and was welcomed by parents already staying at the HP House. This will be Tanners home for the next few weeks.
Monday, Tanner had his Pre-Op visit with Dr. Standard and Rishi. What great people they are. We even met five Perthes families during our visit and Tanner made some great friends. Matthew, Janet and Bradley’s son will be facing the same surgery as Tanner in July. There was a instant bond between the two. During our time with the Doctor Tanner learned what the surgery detailed and Dr. S assured him he would be asleep. LOL…he was very thankful for that ;o)
After our appointment we drove to Georgetown in DC and went to Georgetown/DC Cupcakes, from TLC! Oh my…Chocolate Chocolate, Chocolate Coconut, Toffee Crunch to name a few…yum! Then a drive back to HP, dinner and a trip to the local Walmart. It is like furnishing your first home. Blankets, cleaning supplies, dishes, silverware, etc…all things you can’t make room to pack. If you would like to make a donation to the HP House and help them please follow the link. It would be so appreciated. Even food donations are appreciated. Some have been here six months or longer. More to follow on that….
Today we plan on going to the Baltimore Inner Harbor and the Baltimore Aquarium. We will also find out Tanner’s surgery time as we are waiting on a delivery of a piece of equipment for another surgery to be the determining factor between
6 am and 11 am. We shall see.
For those of you who have asked for the address to where Tanner is staying, it is as follows:
2434 West Belvedere Avenue
Baltimore, MD 21215
or you may email him a card with this by clicking link.
Thank you everyone for your prayers for our son Tanner for a successful surgery and a great recovery.
David, Alice, and Tanner
